Climate Control and Air Purifiers: Stay Comfortable and Breathe Easy
A comfy home is a happy home, and the key to staying comfortable in just about any weather is the proper climate control product. Are you feeling too hot or too cold? Is the air too dry, too moist, or too dusty for your allergies? Pick up an air conditioner, fan, air purifier, heater, humidifier, or dehumidifier from brands like Sharp, Heaven Fresh, Blueair, Honeywell, MyFine, Dyson, Royal Sovereign, Lasko, Sonax, Holmes, or Haier and you’ll be feeling better in no time.
Air Conditioners and Fans
Aside from taking an ice bath every few hours, the best way to beat sweltering heat is with an air conditioner or fan. Most air conditioners require a ventilation link to outside air, so they’re usually placed inside a window or linked to a window with tubes. Room air conditioners are designed to stay in one place (i.e., they’re not really portable) and they usually mount inside your window. Portable air conditioners sit on wheels so they can be moved from room to room, and they use methods like flexible pipes connected to your window for ventilation. Fans come in various sizes and configurations, and if you’re looking to cool a larger space choose a fan that can oscillate from side to side so it moves more air. You can even get a fan with technology so advanced it doesn’t have any blades!
Maybe someone in your family has allergies, or you’re looking for a way to reduce some of the pet dander in your home’s air. An air purifier can help clean the air in your house, so your family can breathe easier. Air purifiers employ a variety of techniques to reduce odours and allergens from the air, like HEPA filters and ionizing technology. Look for a purifier with a HEPA filter to help eliminate allergy-causing particles like dust and animal fur, while an ionic filter gives air a positive or negative charge to quietly remove polluting particles. When you’re shopping for air purifiers check for models that have the capacity to clean the air in the room you’re thinking of – the larger the room, the more powerful the purifier you’ll need.
During the cold winter months, sometimes it’s more economical to heat up just a few rooms that you’re spending most of your time in, rather than the whole house. Electric heaters are a great solution, and at Future Shop they’re available in convection, radiant, or fan heating models. Convection heaters are filled with a heat transfer liquid and use the natural air currents in the room to heat larger areas. They’re very quiet, safe, and are good at heating entire rooms, especially if the door is closed. Radiant heaters contain a heating element that broadcasts heat as infrared rays, which basically heat objects, not the air, so they’re good for warming very specific areas. Fan heaters are basically forced convection heaters, since they use fans to push the heated air to where you want it, and they work well at quickly heating smaller areas.
Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers
Having too much humidity in your home can lead to mold, increased dust mites, and breathing difficulties, while too little humidity tends to create problems like dry skin and increased asthma symptoms. Humidifiers can increase the moisture levels in any room of your house through evaporation or creating mist or steam, while dehumidifiers pull excess moisture from the air.
