Medium-sized Luggage: Not Too Big, Not Too Small
When you’re shopping for luggage, one question that may get you scratching your head is: “What size of bag do I need?” A simple guideline that can help you decide is the length of your trip – if you’re going to be away from home up to 10 days, then a medium-sized bag should be large enough to hold all the gear you’ll need to bring. A medium-sized bag is generally defined as luggage or suitcase that’s 23-26” (58-66cm) as measured along its longest dimension.
When it’s packed full a medium-sized bag will probably be somewhat heavy, so it’s great that most of them come equipped with wheels and a telescoping handle. Polyurethane wheels (the same ones you’ll find on inline skates) are durable and great for almost any surface so look for those if you’re planning on doing a lot of rolling around with your luggage. Another thing to check for is a sturdy telescoping handle and strong grab handles, so they can stand up to the strain of pulling and lifting a moderately heavy bag. Some bags are expandable, which allows you to unzip a section to create more storage space – handy for when you want to bring home a bunch of souvenirs.
