Make Your Own Music with Instruments, Keyboards and Digital Pianos, Guitars and Home Recording Gear

Making music is no easy task. You need talent, dedication, and, well, gear. Future Shop carries a large selection of musical instruments, keyboards and pianos, and home recording equipment to help you create and execute your musical ambitions. Whether you want to start a metal band with heavy guitars, bass and drums, or write your own interpretation of Kraftwerk’s Autobahn with a synthesizer and some effects software, we have all the equipment you need, from all the top brands, to get things going.

Musical Instruments

When learning how to play a musical instrument, the gear really does matter. Having an instrument that stays in tune and sounds good often means the difference between sticking with it and getting better over time, or quitting right there on the spot. Luckily, ‘good’ and ‘expensive’ are not synonymous, and you can buy a great guitar, bass, set of drums, or amplifier without breaking the bank. Future Shop carries a wide selection of musical instruments from brands like Fender, Washburn, Boss, Marshall, Line 6, Ampeg, Yamaha, Zildjian, and more – so there’s plenty to choose from in a wide price range.

Guitars Galore

How are you ever going to perfect that twelve minute solo you've always dreamed of performing to a sold-out audience at Madison Square Garden if you don't even have a guitar? We recommend fixing this problem ASAP. Future Shop has an excellent selection of the best guitars available. Try out axes from brands like Fender, Gibson, Tanglewood and Yamaha, and soon you'll be on your way to the Garden.

Keyboards and Digital Pianos

Are you the next Liszt? Or maybe Chopin is more your style. How about a little Philip Glass? Whichever pianist you want to emulate or remix, chances are, you're going to need a keyboard first. We've got you covered. Check out our fine selection of high quality keyboards and digital pianos with brands including Casio, Yamaha, Roland, Emedia, Korg, M-Audio, IK Multimedia and Spectrum. You'll be the master of arpeggios in no time.

Home Recording

It wasn’t long ago that anyone who wanted to put out an album had to spend major bucks at a recording studio. But not anymore. All the tools you need to make your own home recording studio and record music are readily available at Future Shop, including MIDI controllers, audio interfaces, mixers, and recording software. Choosing the right guitar is an important decision for any musician (or their parents, depending on who is footing the bill) to make. Whether it’s your first one, your best one, or something in between, it’s a choice that shouldn’t be taken for granted, or lightly. And, more often than not, a little homework goes a long way in figuring out what's the best fit for the player’s level, style and musical goals. Today we take a look at why Gibson and Epiphone guitars can be a great choice for guitarists of all ages and playing ability.

Fender Stratocaster American Standard Review

By SyllogismeJazz from 01-13-2015

Here’s the American Standard Stratocaster electric guitar by Fender. This beauty had the privilege of spending some time in my studio for a little routine check. And what a ride it was! For some rock chords, blues riffs, funky rhythms and lots of modern jazz, this Strat is a versatile, high-end guitar. The American Standard I personally tried is equipped with three single coil pickups, features a black body finish with a classic white pickguard. The sexy curves of this solid body (it has contours that fit the musician’s arms) makes this guitar a gem of modern electric instrument manufacturing. The Stratocaster model, with its two asymmetrical horns continues to be the most imitated guitar body amongst all lesser brands of electric guitars. Thousands of timeless albums feature the tones of this american musical giant. Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie (and many more) used the Strat as their main instrument. We shouldn’t take this lightly!

Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar Review

By SyllogismeJazz from 01-13-2015

Fender DG-60 - main image.jpg

The Fender DG-60 will soon be available at Future Shop. It’s a Dreadnought with a large body, for a full round sound. This guitar is well built, inexpensive and it has been extensively tested by the author of this article. Towards the end of the 2014 - 2015 holiday season, the DG-60 has been used in several musical contexts by yours truly: playing chords with a pick to accompany the family singing christmas tunes, playing some riff-based blues, teaching on Skype to students on three continents (that’s right!), improvising on jazz standards in chord-melody style without accompaniment and lastly learning from a few fingerstyle guitar lessons online. Let’s see how the Fender DG-60 did with this little benchmark test!
