The Latest and Greatest in HDTV, Flat Panel, and Projector Technology
HDTV technology has experienced an incredible upsurge in popularity over the last few years, alongside a remarkable drop in price. Future Shop carries a huge range of HDTVs, including LCD, LED, Plasma, Projectors, and even 3DTVs. There are a ton of models out there to choose from with a huge array of features. Here’s a quick primer on the TVs available in our stores:
LCD
LCD HDTVs are the most common and popular models out there. Why? Well, they offer great all-around performance in terms of image quality, colours, and efficiency. These flat panels are slim and light, offering high quality imagery and long-lasting performance.
Plasma
Plasma displays are known for producing truer-to-the source colours, making them the ideal choice for watching movies in dimly-lit environments. And, though they’re ideal for film buffs, they also deliver amazing HD images for games, shows, and sports.
LED
LED is the latest iteration of LCD display technology, only it’s powered by tiny light-emitting diodes. These small lights make the display capable of producing a remarkably bright image, while using a fraction of the energy of a conventional flatscreen. And because of their small size, manufacturers can produce panels that are less than an inch in depth.
3D TV
3D is the latest and greatest technology in the home entertainment sphere. It adds depth and dimension to your favourite HD movies. And, with new 3D titles launching every week, three-dimensional 3DTV will likely find itself a staple in many homes in years to come.
Smart TV
The term “smart TV” generally refers to a TV that has wireless connectivity so it can access additional content on the Internet or through other devices on your wireless network, like your computer. Some newer Smart TVs have wireless capabilities built in, while other models require an add-on dongle to hop onto a network. If your current TV isn’t “smart” and you want to give it an IQ boost, you can add a set-top box like a Boxee or Apple TV, or use Internet-connected video game consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. SmartTVs open up whole new worlds of entertainment possibilities, like streaming movies and TV shows from Netflix, social updates from Facebook and Twitter, and online video chatting through Skype (with a compatible camera add-on).
Projector
There are two major advantages to having an HD projector. The first being that you can create a huge image, beyond 100-inches in size. The second is the fact that there is no heavy display involved, just the small projector (which often takes up less room than a printer), and a projector screen or a wall.
