Great Camera

I shot with a Canon 35mm AE-1 for 25 years. This DSLR is a new dimension. Back in the day, we laid awake and dreamed of this kind of functionality. And this kind of price tag! First note that the T3 has the more or less the same command wheel and settings as the point & shoot Power Shot A520 series. Av, Tv, Portrait, Landscape and so forth. Easy transitions to DSLR. Sweet! The 18-55 lens that comes in the box is a thing of beauty. Plus, the one button and wheel to adjust the auto focus points is staggering! Yes, I just love the 'Quick' button and the wheel by the shutter that lets you change the aperture in Av or the shutter speed in Tv without reference to menus. Sweet! In 'Portrait' the "Intense" setting gives a great balanced shot under tungsten. Again, the wheel by the shutter. 'Macro' seems to be good down to about eight inches - with all the adjustments. I think that the camera really excels in 'Program' mode. This gives you auto aperture and shutter speed, but allows you to shut off the flash and control most other parameters. With ISO on 'AUTO', you can pretty much take pictures in a coal mine with the lights out. Sweet! I'm thoroughly impressed!

Great For What It Offers

I switched from my Pentax k20d to this camera. For a starter camera and at such a great price, it's for sure a keeper. Some basic advantages I like: - Extremely long battery life - Great layout of buttons - Very Light - Great price tag - Perfect balance of MP (at 12.2) - Great image quality - Shoots decent video, which my other SLR didn't at all Some small cons (some of these are more specific to each user): - Canon, out of all its recent rebels, has not made a battery grip for this model (yet) - It reflects its price, feels cheap in the hands - The battery door is not difficult per se, but not the sturdiest or easiest to access All that being said, I still bought this camera knowing these things, because I consider image quality an important decision factor. It captures colour beautifuly, and is quite responsive. Plus, with the money I saved on the camera itself, I will be investing in a higher end lens. Though Canon hasn't made a battery grip specific to this model, you can still get different cheaper brand battery grips. I only mention this because though the t3 has an amazing battery life, I like to shoot vertically frequently, therefore a grip is a very useful accessory. This is an amazing starter SLR, and for those who don't like to stray from auto mode or don't consider video a significant factor, this is a beauty. If video is your thing, look towards the t2i or t3i which shoot in HD. But do your homework, read some reviews, and find out what features are important to you. Another obvious suggestion is to go into a store and actually hold the camera in your hands. I've had a few friends tell me it's a little snug (this is not an issue for me, seeing as I have tiny hands).

The best camera I ever had

I bought this camera a while ago (to upgrade to DSLR) and I have found it to be the best camera I ever bought. It takes great photos, great video and the creative auto is great for beginers. I have found I like to use one of the other modes to give me more control. The lens this one comes with doesn`t give me enough zoom so I am upgrading to one with more zoom. So considering everything its a great camera
