Pleased with the product

Although the reviews on the Nextbox 3.0 were not very good, I went ahead and purchased it for Christmas thinking that I had a year's time to exchange it should it not work properly as many reviews claimed. Upon activating the box, I could not access Rogers on Demand. They came and tried to fix the problem but then had to exchange it for a new box, which they had in their truck. That didn't work either and exchanged another new one, which work perfectly. I haven't had any problems since and Rogers is willing to exchange it as many times it needs to for a year. Even though I bought it instead of renting, they said that Future Shop would refer customers to Rogers anyway, so Rogers dealt with it on the spot. The fast-forward is excellent and stops at exactly the spot, whereas my previous version (Nextbox 2 - which only recorded two programs at a time) would go a few frames ahead. Some complained that it didn't record everything they had programmed but I haven't found that to be the case. I'm very pleased that I can record up to 8 programs without having to make viewing choices. I'm very pleased with it so far and am glad I bought it.

If I could give Zero stars, I would

I had Bell Satellite, moved into a townhouse that prohibited my dish, so I had to change, the Fibe tv is 100% dependent upon your internet connection, and my internet connection was garbage so I went with Rogers. This service is more expensive, and it is absolutely terrible. All of the other complaints here are absolutely true. My biggest complaint is that it does not record my programs. I was out of town for a few weeks, I have a series record set for Gotham and Empire and it recorded neither. Last night, Empire was on, and it was on the list to record, and it did not record. I bought a Google Box for my bedroom tv, I have found myself using that, and never turning on the Rogers service. I am canceling this service and i do NOT recommend it.

Piece of junk

3rd Netbox 3.0 in little under two months. They keep having system failures, fail to record, corrupted recording or reboots. Keep up the good work Rogers!

please don't buy this box

our old box died one day after our 4-year warranty expired. FS was kind enough to give us a discount on the new box...been just over a year and we can't watch any of our recorded shows. Called rogers for help and they said there is a known defect with the box. their 'temporary fix' (settings, system, changebox name, save, reboot) didn't work for more than 2 minutes. i am going to rent a box from rogers from now on. especially since there is a known defect from the manufacturer, therefore FS shouldn't even be selling the box!!!

This unit dies more often than vampires

This is a great unit when it works, but it fails very often. We generally buy such things rather than renting, but that was an error for this. We are about to get our fourth unit, and when it dies, you cannot get recorded shows back. And on the Rogers site, it appears to be impossible to find out how long the warranty is. There are some nice features, but the previous model kept working, and that was a bonus!

It's fine

I guess there are some lemons out there. The only problem I have with mine is that when it's very full (97%+), the menus freeze and it needs a reboot. That's too much stuff to watch anyway. ;o)

Full of problems

I rent one of these from Rogers and I've had to exchange it at least 4 times in the past year. To their credit, they've exchanged it without question every time. You're crazy if you buy one because it will fail on you sooner or later and you won't be able to exchange it.

The fact it is missing the skip forward is a big disadvantage. The info bar stays on the scree while fast forwarding. This is terrible for sports. Worse than 1 star.

Best PVR Ever

I have now had this for one year and l have no problem recording. Works great and after reading so many people having problems l think l know how you can fix your problem. Just take the Learn How To Use A PVR Program and you are set. I did not need the Program as you can read l know How To Use my PVR 3.0 and when the 4.0 comes out l will also have to get that one as well.

This replaced an eight year old Rogers PVR that finally failed. Where the PVR was great, this nextbox is terrible. Firstly, it's slow to respond to commands. Press List or Stop and the wait for the next menu is seconds long. Why? What's it doing? But the main problem is the fact that the software is buggy. After a few days, the scrolling in the program menu stops working properly requiring a cold reboot. This happens again and again. I can't believe such a problem could exist in a product that's been available for so long. And there's no fix or recourse for it. Terrible.

This box is worse than garbage, drops pre-recorded shows, it freezes up en the middle of a show and it is very frustrating, some times wouldn't let you cancel an event with the message that the show can not be canceedl because it is been viewed or has already been canceled. I am only keeping it because there is no other choice, I have one more box but with that one can only taped two shows at the same time, the drawback is that you can't watch nothing else live. With the crappy box you can tape up to 7 shows at the time and watch one live. It is very disappointing to say the least because doesn't work properly. I have had several technicians coming to check it but nobody so far has done anything to fix it !!!!!!

What a flawed product

I have replace 4 units and I am on the 5th in 6 months. All do the same with play back issues. They can last one week to 2 months and all were flawed. On play back intermittently the picture freezes and you cant watch the end of the show. Last night I recorded 3 shows at the same time,On 2 shows i could watch 4-8 minutes and they froze. On the the third show every time I hit play the unit re booted! After having Rogers tech come in and rewire my house and replace power supply it is still flawed. Not recommended period

Not worth the money

This is my 3rd box, everyone is right when they say it freezes up all the time, misses recordings, will reboot it self in the middle of a show your watching. I have had techs out to the house numerous times. This is the net box 3.0 pvr,my advice to you is,stay away from this piece of CRAP.

Very Good Unit

I have been using this unit for 2 months now, mainly multiple recordings and find this PVR easy to use & great onscreen display. Only small complaint is that you have to record the whole program, even if its a 4 hour event, you can't record increments of 30 minutes or more, which is what I would prefer sometime with long events.

Fantastic Unit for Recordings and more

I have been using this unit now for 4 months and no complaints. The is a big improvement over my DVR unit, although with the PVR obviosly you can't burn DVDs., since it only has a hard drive. I find its great and easy to record current and future shows, good on screen menu for recording & playback. Surpised at this price it doesn't come with an instruciton manual, which you must download from the internet.

Very Nice Unit

Big improvement over previous DVRs. Able to record many programs while away and easy to use menu for playback. Had this unit for 2 months now and so far no problems

Fantastic PVR for Recording!

This unit replaces my Sony DVR and this PVR is great to use for multiple recordings, other useful features and is easy to use on screen menu. Although at this price you would think Rogers can afford to include an instruction manual.

Absolute garbage!

We've had this piece of junk for eight months and I cannot believe that a reputable company like Rogers would sell such an overpriced and flawed product. It freezes up all of the time when scrolling through either the guide or the list of recordings, and must be rebooted. Sometimes the reboot itself freezes and must be rebooted! We've had Rogers technicians to the house twice and they act all surprised when we tell them how badly this PVR performs. Rogers techs should look at the hundreds of Nextbox 3.0 owners who have reported this freezing problem on multiple consumer-review websites.

VERY frustrating to watch pause bar sitting there for the longest time, it serves no purpose to have it any longer than 1 second, it hides all sorts of info if you are watching sports. It drops pre-recorded programs without warning, 30% of the time a program you had recorded as a series recording has been dropped, FRUSTRATING.

Very Satisfied with Recording Capabilites

I bought this to replace my Panasonic DVR and this has many more features and is easy to operate. Of course there are no DVD hard copies anymore. But this hard drive is great for all my recordings up to 240 hrs. Easy to use onscreen menu.

Great Unit for Recordings & Playbacks!

This unit is fantastic, has many great features if you like recording a great deal. Record multiple programs while watching something else. Very easy to navigate Recording sections for playback. Only complaint is that it doesn't come with a manual, so you must download off the Internet.

No problem here!!!

I have been renting to own this 9865 nextbox from Rogers and haven't had a problem with it at all and have had now for about 9 months. Still running well and recording everything properly. No hanging or freezing here.

very dissapointed

frequently freezes, very slow to react to remote commands, I have had to unplug the box several times to get it to work properly, I am a very disappointed Rogers customer, but who isn't?

It's an excellent thing!

I have been around since the very first wired cable boxes where you had to push buttons to change channels. This box is easily the best I have ever encountered. The menu interfaces are easy to access and understand. The on-screen experience is flawless and beautiful. I have experienced none of the problems others are talking about. I was considering switching to Bell to save some money on programming, but I don't want to lost the Nextbox 3.0. I am serious, and I don't work for Rogers. As a matter of fact I am somewhat critical of Rogers' service and pricing, but his time they have hit a home run with this box.

This is piece of junk equipment

I Owned this receiver for about 2 month and I will tell you guys this is piece of junk equipment waste of money Here are few reasons Y you should not get this JUNK 1.) PVR its junk near to useless if there are 5 or 10 same episodes playing per day this just keeps recording them all and wasting the hard drive space. 2.) when scrolling on PVR list very often it freezes and won't scroll up and down and I have to unplug from the power and plug it back in I have to repeat this up to 5 times a day. 3.) when you change to 1080P format and when you playback recorded shows the sound and video cuts off every about five to 10 seconds for a second or two. 4.) no 30 seconds or one minute forward Skip only three minutes which you will get sick and tired skipping forward and backward The only benefit about this BOX is that you can record up to 8 HD shows at the same time but do you really need that? It is shame and Rogers how much they are selling and renting this piece of junk this was not even supposed to be on the market my recommendation would be stay away from this junk. This is nothing but just a ripoff I switched the provider and now I am much more happier

Seems like a downgrade from my older version

Just picked this up today and it will only play 720P When I try to change it in the settings the PVR freezes and I have to reboot. Channels change so slowly its frustrating. Wishing I'd kept the old huge 2 tuner silver one that worked flawlessly, changed channels quickly and I much preferred the guide on. I don't suggest anyone rush out to purchase this product

I do not have an 8 event box. But the 2 events box exhibits the same tendencies of rebooting. Adding a laptop cooler with its own power supply does the trick. The box is overheating. Why could the manufacturer add a cooling fan is beyond my understanding

  • from Orangeville, ON

Agree with a few of the other posts - too expensive, no forward "jog" function, PVR freezes and can sometimes take multiple reboots before it's functioning properly. And why anyone would need 8 channels is incomprehensible.

Ahead of its time Cisco is ready now are you.....

This hardware is the next generation in technology for the room the whole family spends the most time in together. There is more going on in the nextbox 3.0 than most people can comprehend, just remember for a second the flashing VCR clocks across the continent for years. If yours flashed then, there is more to miss than ever in this box. There is one night per week that the latest versions of the shows each family member follows happen all around the same time 7-11pm time slot. There is the night every week the "record 8 shows at once" feature gets a workout. Each show is recorded, while watching the channel the family votes for each time 7pm 8pm 9pm 10pm etc... the ones missed are recorded simultaneously and watched later in the week, no one misses the latest episode in the series. Then there is the on demand features included in your subscription. I was able to discover a "new to me" superchannel series in the midst of season 5 or 6, which we recorded each time it played for playback numerous times over the week waiting for the next episode, and going back over the entire series in each season to catch up to where the story was at once i started following the series. There are more series available all the time on pay channels like AMC HBO TMN, as well as regular channels like global ctv city cbc. You can program your recorder to record the latest and everything else is finding its way into the on demand menu's. The box has the feature, the provider just has to fill the menu's with the seasons episodes which they are a little disorganized getting that content properly filled in everywhere. Then there is the internet........ This box can connect to the internet to draw its content so instead of being limited to your core provider rogers, bell, shaw, etc, you can now access anything out there such as netflix and others. For the truly adventurous there is the smart tv which permits the netflix content added to the core supplier and that is where my exploration is at this point so I will have to get back to you on the use of this box for the internet, but its like a full time job figuring all the features available from this new technology in this box, so when you read a review about how it reboots every night at 2-5 am, yes it does, but once you discover all the cool stuff cisco has brought to the flashing VCR consumers eventually you gotta get up stop that flashing clock and figure out how to use this awesome technology.

Nice but Pricey

Having 8 tuners is really convenient however I doubt we will ever need all 8 at once. The price tag is pretty steep but it is a great , fast PVR.

Bad box

This box as well as their previous one has problems with software updates and manual reboots. Every night at 2AM, the box reboots, then it freezes and the remote stops working, then I have to do a manual reboot.
