Best media streamer I've every used!

I've been using this device for a couple weeks now. Very, very happy with it! Here is how the unit works: Once you've unpacked it, you connect it to your network. The onboard software allows you to enter your Windows workgroup information (username/password). From there, you go into the "sources" menu and tell it where to find all your movie/tv files. And that's it. The Boxee then start scanning all your files to try to identify them. It will use the file name to try to figure out what the movie title/tv show title&episode is. Once identified, it will run out to IMDB and download the cover, plus a synopsis of the movie/tv episode. It then builds a list of shows that you can scroll through with the remote. The user doesn't need to know which server/share they are on, they just see the cover, click the show they want to watch and away it goes. I have a very large number of files (8TB) spread across 4 different servers. It correctly identified around 90% of the files. The remaining 10% were files that were badly named (for example, BSG for Battlestar Galactica). In that case, you have two choices. You can either rename all the files (I used a mass file rename utility for this), or Boxee will let you help it figure out what the actual show is. Once you've done this for one episode, it will ask if you want to apply those changes to all episodes. This feature seems to work very well, but my preferred method is to rename the file so that future products can automatically find the file online. So far I've not found a file format it won't play. (I have a lot of different formats). Highly recommended!!

Best techy thing I've bought in a long while

Have read a few pages of these critiques. Can't imagine why some folks are having a problem with theirs. My wife and I, both "oldies", stream videos from my pc wirelessly to our big screen tv downstairs. Netflix works really well, if only they had a wider range and quality (like the US) of movies. Spend a lot of time on YouTube. Find the Boxee an amazing device. Just wish I knew how to hook up my VPN to Boxee, then I'd get a fantastic array of video and tv from throughout the world.

Netflix crashes, doesn't work

I bought this as a gift, solely for netflix. Netflix simply crashes on load-- app doesn't even start. I can't fix it, and I've spent hours on the problem, with tech support, etc. Waste of time.

Frustrating especially with Netflix app

Have had my boxee for about 8 months and during that period have had at least 3 or 4 instances where boxee crashes and the netflix app won't work. Each time considerable effort is required with tech support to get the thing working again. The last crash was the final straw. I've unplugged boxee and cancelled my subscription to netflix. The frustration is simply not worth the effort to keep boxee working.

Easy easy easy

I was looking for an easy way to access Netflix, YouTube and content on my computer and I have found it! Boxee Box was easy to setup, easy to use and very intuitive.
