Much better than competing solutions

Wide angle lens, great sound/mic and video quality, super easy installation, and very well designed video monitoring app from the cloud. No cloud recording and saving unless you subscribe to a plan, but you can still get alerts, etc and see access your camera feed from your mobile. I also have a Dlink 5222L, but it is nowhere near the same quality video and user interface is clunky and difficult to work with. If you want to monitor your home and want great quality video, this is the best solution I have found and worth the $10/month monitoring fee for peace of mind.

Like other reviewers, I find the overall camera excellent, picture quality, ease of set up, using my iPhone to view when I'm away. I agree with other reviewers as well with the fact that an external drive option for recording would be nice. I have two cameras in my house, and using the cloud gets pricey. Overall I'm very pleased with the cameras, the night vision is clear, I get an alert sent to my phone when activity is detected, and it is a breeze to set up multiple cameras.

Excellent cam!

Previously was using Dlink 5222L, but too much of a headache to set up and video quality was poor. The Dropcam 1080p video is excellent and the cloud/mobile apps for managing video are excellent. Very easy to install, mobile alerts, great video management and more. Cloud is an extra fee if you want 7 or 30 day video retention, but worth it for the price if you want some security and peace of mind. I bought two and no regrets. Definitely worth it.

Poor Value for the Money

Very pricey for the features that it can do. You need to pay extra to record, for this price it should give you that option already to save on an external drive. There are other less expensive system that are way better than this.

Easy Set up, Great Picture

Probably the easiest camera to set up to watch your home when you are away. It gets pricey when you add 2, or 3 cameras, and then want the cloud recording which is extra. I have mine at the front door. its nice to see who approaches the house when you are away.

Excellent... but...

I have owned several security cameras over the past couple years and then settled on the D-Link cameras. I have grown unhappy with D-Link as the video is blurry and the cameras are slow. At most, you know something is happening but you won't get good enough quality to see "who". I was hesitant at first but then decided to try a Dropcam. Very happy with it. Quality is outstanding and makes the D-Link cameras look like garbage. Couple of major downsides are... video recording is saved on their (Google owns them now) servers. You can't save locally. The other downside is, you pay $10 a month for 7 days recording and $5 a month for an additional camera. I weighed the pros and cons and despite this, I will switch over. The pros outweigh the cons. Without paying the monthly fee, you CAN still use the camera, you just can't review event recordings, only live view. This is why it only gets 4-stars rather than 5. I would have only given 3.5 stars but couldn't select that. Get one and try it. You won't be disappointed.

Ok .... But!

I liked the concept of the camera, but it never worked like advertised. My biggest complaint is that it had poor Wi-Fi reception. I had set this device up within 12 feet of my Wi-Fi - clear line of sight - and would never received full Wi-Fi reception. This created poor imagining. I paid the extra money for HD, I should be able to use HD. The Drop Cam tech support was awesome. My internet connection ran above what was required for the HD. Unfortunately, the only solution was to turn off the HD to improve the reception. I ended up returning the camera. Great product (if the HD worked), but like another review, I felt like I was paying extra for a lens that would just give me a few extra degrees.

Now have 3 dropcams working in our house. Two weeks in, we have had not a single problem. Works flawlessly and playback is very good. Great security investment!

way over priced for a single cam.. for [price] more you can get a whole security camera setup with 4 cameras and a recording unit with a 500GB-1TB HDD. they are not wifi, but are visible and controllable over the web.. dropcam is good for web cam but not for security.. and the buy a subscription to view recordings is a joke..

It is impressive!

I use this camera every day. Great peace of mind when contractors or cleaners are in my home when I'm not there and the alerts work great. There were some issues with the app on my smart phone however the latest update resolved the issues. The support team is very easy to deal with and resolved an issue I had. You can select to stream the video HD or SD to your device and if you do not manually set it to HD it will default to lower quality when you are on a cell network to save your data. The data cloud is worth it as there have been several examples online where homes were robbed and the dropcam / computers were stolen but the video is still safe on the cloud to give to the police. Very user friendly online. I've recommended to several business owners to buy one of these that can't afford an elaborate and expensive DVR security camera system.

Very unreliable

The Dropcam Pro works decently. However, it only seems to work only half of the time. Sometimes the whole app crashes, and sometimes the camera just does not connect. Also, the company claims it shoots HD video, but once it actually streams to your device, it has extremely poor quality, especially when zoomed. There is also about a 5 second delay in the streaming. As far as I can tell, there seems to be no major improvements from the regular Dropcam. I suggest just buying that and saving $. The quality of this product does not match the price.

impressed, decent pic but limited when zoomed

returned the Pro, not necessary spend extra$ the extra degrees of coverage really not needed. bought 2 of the silver instead. sound works good and the event notification is decent. about a 5 sec delay It is unfortunate that you need to buy a subscription for each camera if you want a record of events. good item for the price
