resets to factory

Continues to reset to factory settings every 2 to 3 weeks. All saved locations are lost. Otherwise it works fine.

I am really happy with our Garmin Nuvi GPS and it is everything I expected. The only problem is that we discovered that our 6 year old Apple MAC book computer did not have the more recent operating system that is needed to get the updates.

Wish More was included.

Ok so i knew what i was getting when i bought this. I had an older 4.3" Garmin and lost it so i bought the 5" Works as expected but i wish hands free was included. i mean with all the prompts of not using it while driving, most of us will use it while driving. I also love the split screen for a virtual view of exactly what your exit looks like, i only wish this split view of the exit was a bit bigger then the actual route. when your approaching an exit id like to see more of the exit and less of the path im already on. Aside from that everything is awesome. well gone garmin.

2555LM review

I have had this for 18 months, and it has stopped working. While it was working, it was not particularly reliable, seeming to have a mind of its own. it insisted on sticking with the route it (Nuvi) picked, to the exclusion of other options. I could get really close to my destination and it was still trying to get me to turn around and drive way out of my way to pick up the original trail. Overall, it was finicky, unreliable and died not long after the warranty ended - NOT a good purchase.

Nice and easy to use

Last 4 GPS I used were Tom Tom and this is the first Garmin GPS. This one is very easy to use but very basic compare to my other GPSs. Well, all other ones were lasted one year and half to 2 years so I didn't want to spend too much. I hope this will last at least 2 years.

Overall a Good GPS

This is the first GPS I've ever owned and I've found it to be quite user friendly. I've used it several times. Some things that I like are the advance directions for turns one traffic light before, the large screen, display of speed limits, expandable memory and the trip planner. Some things that could be improved are slow recalculation if you don't follow its suggested route, some pronunciation issues with street names, giving longer routes, and installing the software to enable lifetime map updates. Before I bought this GPS, I often use Google maps to look at different routes to get a destination. I don't think this GPS has this feature and there are times when I want to see possible routes that I could take beforehand, though I am not sure if other GPSs offer this feature.

GPS is good, but some misunderstandings

I only used it for a few short trips. It's working well so far. The problem is when the staff at store introduced me 2555LM, he said it had the traffic receiver in the cable and it could receive the live traffic information for free that was the main reason I bought it. But when I started using it, I couldn't figure out the live traffic function. I did some research and found out this one doesn't have the receiver at all. There is 2555 LMT which has the traffic function on Garmin's website, but Future Shop doesn't carry it.

Good product but not great

Switched to Garmin because my old TomTom died prematurely and TomTom were not supportive of their product. Dealing with them led absolutely nowhere. So the Garmin unit is adequate, but also has major bugs. The English voices that do French street names do a sorry job, and the French ones do likewise for English street names. ETAs are truly approximate, often overestimating by up to 7-10 minutes. There is no traffic warning support included like the TomTom, and no warnings for photo radar. It is acceptable, nothing more. It will do for now, at its price point.

Awesome device and gets you where you want to go, but sometimes it gives you a longer route. I love the device.

Cant find Hamilton

This unit avoids toll roads in Canada but is OK with toll roads in the US ? Updates are are a nightmare , very long & requires many steps. Does not know addresses in Hamilton. Keep looking other units have got to better.

Was misled by Garmin

It turns out that the device is limited to one country and you get to pay extra for map updates in other countries. So much for lifetime maps. Plus if you complain you will get a long run around focused on proving that you are using it all wrong rather than trying to solve your problem. I will never buy another Garmin device again after this experience.

Happy customer

Used this unit for the first time on a 5000km road trip through British Columbia to Utah and back. The information it provided was a huge help on the trip, and the highway navigation was just the beginning. It found and led us to Toyota dealers in two different cities (poor maintenance on my part, not poor performance by Toyota), found grocery stores and restaurants for us, and led us through more than one transit of cities where we would otherwise have had a tough time finding our way without it. All round, it was a great investment, and for me, has already paid for itself in this one trip. The main reasons for not giving 5 stars are that on one occasion, the unit became unresponsive until I reset it, and the included database has limitations. The reset issue occurred when, for no apparent reason, the unit would not turn on. Repeated attempts failed to wake the device up. Eventually, I held the power button down long enough to reset the unit, and is has worked fine since. The included data on stores, restaurants etc. is still limited, and the speed limit data was wrong perhaps roughly 10% of the time on our trip.

Easy to use, but crashes too often

I am mostly happy with this particular model from the functionality perspective, after replacing my previous Nuvi I bought two years ago. The pro in comparison with my last Nuvi device includes more info with the layers, bigger screen (5" vs 4.3"), and more dashboard options to choose from. The only thing that I am not happy with and am thinking to return it for a different device is that, it resets too often. Had followed the instructions on the Garmin support website to update the FW and map. But it didn't change anything. It usually resets in the worst moment -- during the much needed navigation. It just went dead in the middle of driving. No interaction with it from the user whatsoever. Hence give it a low 2 rating. If someone can convince me that it's this particular HW specific, I'd give it a 5 rating.
