I found the single player mode a bit choppy compared to the first two God of War, didn't seem as fluid and reactive to the button pressing like before.
The real fun is in the multiplayer environment, where you can play various modes as 4 different God characters with cool weaponry and magic.
This game is awesome. Sometimes too detailed in some sections and Future Shop got it to my door the day it came out. Can't complain about that
God of war ascension marks the first game in the franchise to include multiplayer, as well as an origin story, revealing new details and characteristics about the Protagonist Kratos while being expected to completely flesh out why he is always so angry and to even reveal a new side of the character that most people have always wanted. The singleplayer game is exactly how you would expect a god of war game to play out. This game is a very mature title with the same close quarter combat, gruesome kill animations, an unbelievably epic scale, and the occasional sex scene here and there to mix things up a small bit. It is to say that the multiplayer side of the game is a decent first attempt at making an often singleplayer only experience into something that 2-8 people can enjoy together. It was far better than I expected it to be and while its nothing that will keep you hooked for months to come, it feels like more than a tacked on and forced multiplayer suite that most expected it to be. Overall God of War: Ascension is the same great game you know and love. Even with its failed attempt to reveal a new side to the character Kratos and really explain his origins, it manages to perfect the third person combat to an even higher degree than before, and the multiplayer is a welcome surprise that people will enjoy for some time. This is a must buy for any god of war fan, unless you were really looking to learn a ton more about kratos, then you may be a bit disappointed, but otherwise just go out and buy it, it rocks!
