Clunkier than you might expect

There are many things to like about this unit. The quality of sound is good, and the colours seem decent. There are a lot of features, and the button layout and geneal interface is good. But there are some surprising goofs and oversights too. 1) the image is distorted. Everything looks vertically compressed - like they used a 'standard' 4:3 image sensor, but are displaying it on an HD 16:9 shaped screen. People look short and stout one way, then impossibly thin if viewed 90 degrees off. 2) the lullabyes - they're not the *most* ghastly renditions imaginable, but they're not far off. There are only three of them, and they all kinda suck. 3) battery life - is a lot shorter than what's suggested by the marketing copy. Sure, it might work for 24 in maximum power-saving peep mode - but if you're actively viewing your kid, even with the brightness at its lowest setting, I didn't even get a full hour before the empty battery indicator started flashing. 4) tilt range - the camera unit is designed to either stand on a flat surface, or hang sideways from a vertical one. But when placed on a flat surface that is high enough to be out of our one year old's reach, it couldn't tilt down far enough to actually see his bed. On the other hand, it's perfectly capable of tilting straight up and getting an excellent look at the ceiling. I wonder, if I hung it from the ceiling, would the image flip over to show things the right way up? Hanging off a vertical surface is irritating, as you then effectively lose the side-to-side panning action, as everything end up looking tilted at crazy angles. 5) Zoom. There are two levels of digital zoom. That's ok, I guess, if you have poor eye sight - but an optical zoom would have allowed for much better range of placement. It could go across the room, and zoom on baby without significant loss of information. 6) Controls - At this price point, it really should be a touch screen interface. The four-way controller works ok, but it feels positively retro in this day and age. Am I wrong to expect more?

Great Baby Monitor

Very happy with purchase, nice large 4.3 inch screen, the monitor is really sensitive to baby noise and you can turn up the volume to hear even heavy breathing or your baby shuffling around in the crib. Tons of functionality with the monitor, with the option to save to SD, which i have not used so far.
