not a bad receiver for the money.A little bit bulky but the only down side is that it dosen't have a built in wi-fi. That is an add-on purchase from pioneer for extra $$.

Pioneer Rating

The receiver is good for the money one pays. If you want a higher quality receiver you probably need to pay almost double what this one sells for. A better investment is to make sure you have the highest quality speakers you can afford. Even a crappy receiver can sound good through high quality speakers.

Good for the money

The VSX-823-K has decent sound and sound features at it's price point. This is by no means a high-mid range receiver, but rather a solid mid range. The pass-through for HDMI can be change from the remote even with the receiver in standby, allowing you to use different devices without having to turn the unit on. I got mine on sale on Boxing Day, and am happy with it. It is no Denon or Onkyo as some have pointed out, but that like comparing a Porsche 911 to Mitsubishi Evo X. You get what you pay for!

Lousy Receiver

I bought this receiver on sale during New Year Holiday. After one week, I had to return it. It was a lousy receiver. I had a Denon before. But that Denon does not have any HDMI. After seeing this one has many HDMI ports, thought it would solve my problem. But the sound quality is really bad. On my old Denon, I could hear the smooth silkiness of the music, but this one, its quality of sound is merely comparable to the sound from the TV itself. At high volume, the sound of music was seriously distorted. I would not recommend this receiver. A waste of money. After returning it, I bought a Denon AVR X.

Ok but...

Ok receiver but I had some frustrations with it and am considering returning it for a Denon or Onkyo. On screen display is horrible. Networking functions and core receiver functions are seperate entities from each other resulting in a confusing experience. Airplay audio is distorted. when I power on the TV it switches from the satellite input to the TV input and then I have to manually reselect the input that it was on before resulting in a frustrated wife.
