Great value

For the price this phone is a great deal! Nothing out there that I could find in this price point that even compares. Works great and stands up to hard use.

Not a very good phone.

It's very basic for a starter smart phone. Cons: Battery life is very poor. A lot of conflict and issues running apps (especially w/ recent updates) Poor quality camera/video. I find call quality very poor. Also 'turn data off' did not, it was essentially a fake phone feature. I had to call Telus to turn off my data. You can't 'multi task' many apps. run youtube&text, etc. Music player is very unorganized. Phone did sustain a fair amount of drops and never shattered, but that was luck of the draw. It's an okay phone if you want something for mobile games, and texting, but that's about it.

Perfect phone for me!

I love it! Great battery life, takes a pretty good picture or video. I would recommend this for anyone as a good phone.

Just what we were looking for.

Great little device, especially for regular use and teens. Great display, quick response time, and all the functions you'd need. Calls sound great, texting is a breeze. Camera is a bit "meh" but you can get some decent pictures out of it. The onboard storage is just right, and add an SD card, and you're golden. Screen size is okay and you can easily see and edit documents and web pages. Battery has lasted 24 hours with regular use, could possibly last longer with WiFi/data off. All in all, a great deal.

Just what we were looking for.

Ordered this online, and we had it within days!! Great shipping time from Future Shop! The phone itself is a great choice, especially for a starter phone or, as we did, for a teen. Fast responses, good download speeds, plenty of space onboard, and access to the Google Play site. So far everything we need is working great. Simple set up and easy to navigate. Calls come thru clear. Comes with all you need with the exception of a SD card, however we haven't had the need yet. If you're looking for a simple smartphone that you need for day to day use, it's a good choice.

Finally, A Phone to represent true freedom

This phone represents true freedom, as it can do anything a "superphone" can do at a much lower cost. I have Nova Launcher 2.3 on my phone to get the kitkat experience, I always have my brightness at half and my wifi is always on. I always get at least 3 days of use out of this phone on regular usage (eg. Texting, Calling, Checking email, updating fb, playing games, watching netflix, watching hockey, etc). Overall, I really love this phone, it is amazing, definitely worth 5 stars!

Great price but an awful phone.

I used this phone temporarily while my iPhone was getting repaired. The price was great, $[...] at the time and it even came with a SIM! But the second I turned it on I realized I got what I paid for. The screen resolution is bad, it's slow and unresponsive at times and the camera isn't the best. I refused to enter my contact list into it because I knew I wasn't committing to it because it was so bad. Battery life was great though--2-3 days on a charge (with WIFI off). I resented using it but you know what, it got me through the month or two I was without my iPhone. If you absolutely need a loaner I would say this would do. But if you're looking to use this as your main phone, good luck to ya!

Great Battery Life.

I love this little phone. I read plenty of reviews prior to buying this phone and found many people were having battery life issues. Several people have posted great advice as to how to avoid this issue and I followed one of them with great success. DO NOT turn the phone on until you have FULLY charge the battery. This method worked for me and I get up to 3 days of use leaving WIFI on, sending and receiving up 12 text a day, monitoring and sending from 3 email accounts, posting to and reading FB, reading a daily devotional and playing a daily crossword. I have the screen brightness turn down, roaming, syc and location service turned off and don't use data if no WIFI exist. I would give this phone a 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the fact that I can't transfer apps to the SD Card. The memory on the phone is enough for the apps I uses but the restriction is annoying none the less.

Reasonable phone at a reasonable price

Not a fast or fancy phone, but everything that a tween or teen probably needs at a reasonable price.

Good little phone

It really is more than what I was expecting. I got it on sale, and I went in on the idea that it was just a temp phone until I could save for a really good one, since I only use prepaid. When I got the phone, I was surprised. It has great battery life so far, it's easy to use, and seems reliable. My only issue, and it only happened once, was after the first night, it said my SIM card was incompatible, even though I'd been using the phone before that. I restarted, no more issue.

Battery life - very good

I bought one for my daughter. Full-chare-and-discharge 3 times as recommended to for a new phone. I have to leave it on standby 4 days between charge. So for me it is working fine and even more if I compare it with my iP 5.

Almost no battery life with G3 cell radio

The phone will drain its battery if using 3G cell service in about 6 hours with nothing else running if you happen to be located between 2 towers equally apart. It will constantly switch between the towers using up all the battery. If only one tower is around, it will act normal and 2-3 days is possible. This is why there are some many different reports on battery life. You may or may not get lucky with your location. If you can run on 2G GSM, you can get 5-6 days on standby with no issues (not possible on Bell or Telus, only possible if you unlock and use on Rogers).

key pad

A little research goes a long way.

I've had this phone for a month now and love it. The best part is the LONG BATTERY life. That's right, long life. I'm getting 3 days out of a charge and that's using text, gaming, email, hockey videos and FB. The secret is to read as many reviews as possible before you just take it home and plug it in. Countless post suggest that for the 1st charge you need to turn off the phone and fully charge it while turned off. This method works. My battery doesn't over heat and keeps it charge. Overnight it only uses 2 to 3%. I always leave WiFi on and the screen is set to medium at all times. I've also let the battery go below 25% twice before charging as some other post have suggest, just in case.

Do Not Buy!!!

Great phone unless you want to actually use it. Battery is dead after 8 hours on standby with wifi and data turned off. Tried 2 different phones with the same results.

Very slow to get a GPS fix (not usable under tree cover), and slow to get a connection to Google Services. No magnetic compass. Will not charge in the car with the provided USB cable and a cigarette lighter USB adapter. [...]

Excellent, However...

This phone is Excellent, and brings great performance while conserving battery. However I do wish I could update to Jellybean, and I am still waiting for it. Overall, it is the best phone I have ever owned to this date. I strongly recommend this phone.

Glitchiest Phone I have Ever Had

I really do not like this phone, it closes Apps all the time. When I use text messaging, it closes the messages up to 3 times before it stays on my screen so I can send. Sometimes I will type and it will not put the character on the screen so I have to power off and restart to send a text. The GPS looses its signal frequently and it does not connect as a mobile hot spot (wish I would have known that before I bought it) Would not buy again and am looking for another phone.

Great MP3 player!

I bought this for my daughter to use as an MP3 player. We may use it as a phone down the road, but my primary reason for buying this is to provide iPod functionality at a fraction of the price. I can add a 32 GB SD card and it's a fully functional Android touch-screen MP3 player. I downloaded a few apps and was immediately able to copy MP3 files from my server to this device and play music, videos, stream from the server, run radio-streaming apps, etc with no issues. The processor is too underpowered to play HD videos but DIVX AVI files played fine. I had no issues with audio on the audio. I have turned off the cell radio to increase battery life. Even on first charge, the battery only dropped about 30% after playing with it for about 3-4 hours. The screen isn't spectacular and viewing angles could be better but it's still solid for the price. There is no device in this price range that even comes close to the functionality you get from this value-priced phone!

Samsung Galaxy Discovery Review

At first i liked this phone. Until i took it out of the box and turned it on. The sound is extremely muffled , with random beeping in the background during calls. The battery life is not very good and the screen froze twice. Also it wouldnt let me download songs because it said the memory was full even though i just got the phone. Another thing is the headphones that came with my phone were un-even, one side was 2 inches and the other side was 18 inches. Overall i was highly disappointed and am on my way to return it.

Nice phone

I bought my phone yesterday and compared to the samsung galaxy ace I had this phone is much better. You get about 2.7gbs of internal memory when you get the phone, which is more then enough for memory to have a lot of great apps from the massive android market place. Also, I added a 4gb external sd card for my music which is also awesome. I'm totally happy with this phone and it will stay with me until the end of my current contract as I had a blackberry that gave out on me in October.

Terrible Battery Life

I like all the features of the phone it has all the features I need in a smartphone, good value for the money, my only issue is the battery. I sometimes have to charge it twice in a day!

Be aware!

Having personally owned iPhone's for quite some time, my wife wanted something similar in features without having to go to a monthly plan. I was hesitant, but after playing with the new phone over an evening, I was very happy and so was she. That's when it all went downhill. This phone will not even last 1 day on a full charge, just on standby! She only uses her phone in emergencies and day after day, it can't hold a full charge without dieing on her before she's even done work. Not much use to have a cell phone that can't hold a charge one day with NO usage!

Great entry Android phone

Excellent form factor, small enough to conveniently hold in your hands and stuffed into your pockets, yet big enough for comfortable everyday use and entertainment. With Android's Play Store, the potential of this phone is only limited by your own imagination. At first, I experienced extreme battery drain like some of the reviewers here. It drained about 15% of the battery per hour on standby, not to mention when being used. I took a few steps to remedy this situation: 1. Adjusted the screen brightness level down to about 20%, the screen is still very clear at this level. 2. Charged the phone until it's completely charged. 3. Shutdown the phone, took out the battery, waited about 30 seconds, then reinserted the battery. 4. Restarted the phone. Now, 24 hours afterwards, my phone has only drained 6% of its battery juice. Not sure this will work for everybody, but it doesn't hurt to try these simple steps. If you haven't bought any monthly data plan, beware of the data usage charge. To avoid it, do not provide a Google account when you first set up the phone. Otherwise, as soon as the phone starts to work the first time, or from time to time afterwards, it'll access your account and you'll be charged for data usage. Also, once you have the phone working, you need to disable data usage for your mobile network, and only turn it on when you really need to use it. Here is how to disable it: on the main screen, tab Menu -> System Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks, then uncheck Data Enabled. Another tip, when you're using wifi, put the phone into airplane mode to make sure you're not using your mobile network for data transfer.

You get what you pay for

Earlier I wrote a review on the future shop website about how this phone it's good value for the money. However after a few days I'm starting to see problems crop up. I'll list them numerically. 1. Battery life. It's not the greatest especially considering that the cortex a5 chip should only use a fraction of the power of the common armv6off the galaxy ace. After several charge cycles it's getting better. Software bug: the phone never reports 100% charge, only 99% maximum. 2. Crashes. Apps crash frequently, especially when trying to exit them. Phone will hang for a minute or so. 3. Wi-Fi drops. Wi-Fi connection will be lost periodically when phone it's left idle. The only remedy it's too toggle Wi-Fi off then on again. 4. Audio glitches. Listening to music on this device is a horrible experience! Audio stream often skips and pops, and occasionally becomes garbled. I've tried using a third party music player like power amp, but these problems still persist. I understand this phone is still in its infancy, but given its lite budget status and the fact that tells us the sole carrier, will we ever see the bugs ironed out in future updates?

What a great little phone!

I bought this phone as a replacement for my tired old Blackberry to finish out my contract, but I may keep it longer. It has the same size screen as an iPhone, and it works plenty fast for the apps I've used so far. Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is a wonderful OS and the browsing is quick. All in all, a pleasant surprise for little $$. Well worth it.
