Great picture, lacking on the smart features

I always had a Sony TV, so when I've decided to replace my older set, choosing Sony for me was a given. I was not disappointed when I truned it on and saw the great picture quality (after some calibration, of course). The speakers are ok, but you cannot really get a decent bass from a flat screen TV. There are plenty of picture settings and modes that can be applied to different scenes, and you can choose a scene for every input, or ask the TV to do it for you. If you don't like the 102Hz/Tru-motion feature (e.g. SOE) you can even control that, so it is a great TV. The "smart" features of the TV leave a lot to be desired, though. The built in Netflix application works perfectly, and watching movies in SuperHD will surprise you with the quality of the picture. Same can be told about the built in Youtube application (which can be controlled from your iPhone/iPad, so you can use the device keyboard), and other applications like Picasa. The problem is that there aren't many web applications, and although you can download a few gadgets via the yahoo widgets feature, it is not enough. Having said that, I think that this is probably due to the lack of other players in Canada (e.g., hulu, HBO Go, Amazon etc.). You do have the built in Sony's rental store, so you can rent and stream Sony's movies. The biggest flaw, however, is the poor support for DLNA. I could not find a single DLNA software that can support HD movies flawlessly (I have a Sony blu-ray that plays all of the DLNA content smoothly, so it is a TV issue). The DLNA feature is, at this point, almost useless. If you want a DLNA device, look somewhere else.

Best Picture!

Not only a great picture, but looks good when it's off too! The most aesthetically clean black frame you'll find, the TV disappears on your wall. Whether in bright sunlight, or darkness, the picture is clear and a pleasure to watch, from any angle. We keep it at standing-eye-level and the kids can't mess with it, or get in each other's way, (and have better posture). Glad to have persevered through the boxing day ridiculousness.

Great Product, but missing critical features

Picture is fantastic with deep rich blacks & bright, vibrant colours. Speakers not great, but acceptable. Smart TV functions not cohesively integrated, with a bunch of different features tacked on & not integrated into one another. One feature, which Sony dedicates whole button on the remote to is the SEN - it is slow to load and a barren waste land in its app marketplace. The Yahoo! Television features load quickly and seem to integrate nicely into the television, but it's app marketplace is also near empty. The biggest drawback to the television is in interacting with the SmartTV features - I bought this because it was supposed to be compatible with Sony's MediaRemote app. Entering text using the remote is painful and just an awful experience. Too bad, because the video is just fantastic on it.
