Sony ps lx300

I'm happy with Sony TT. Only one little thing to add : it's difficult manually to navigate songs on Lp

Windows 8

Be aware that this turntable does not work with Windows 8. I just confirmed this with Sony on the phone after trying everything I could think of to make it work

Excellent!

Only reason I'm not giving it a 5-star rating is because it is a belt-drive. If it were direct drive it would've gotten all 5. Other than that, I haven't used the USB feature on it yet, but it sounds excellent on it's own.

More than what I was expecting!

This record player is awesome. It makes my records sound just as good (if not better) than all my digital recordings! While i'm certainly not an audiophile, this record player sounds much better than many other ones, the quality is amazing! And I don't know what everyone is complaining about, you CAN listen to the records while you record them, just not through your computer speakers. I've done it before!

Surpassed My Expectations!

Instant, pain free hook up to Amp or stereo using the RCA Cables supplied, which i admit are a bit short and are attached to the machine, so an extension would need to be purchased if need be. Sounds great playing all my reallly old rercords. Sounds good loud and really easy to set up and use. Seems that this player would be Perfect for the casual listener in a home theatre setting, i wouldnt recomend any sort of DJ use, as it is all plastic and fairly cheap, but as solid and well built as it needs to be none the less. All in all, in my opinion a great buy!! Use to record to pc OR just plug into stereo and enjoy!

Does the job

I really just got this as a temporary record player but i am actually surprised how good it is for the price and the build. excellent for a beginners turntable or just a casual listen. NOT a DJ turntable.

Excellent sound

I am very happy with this USB turntable, and noticed that the majority of negative reviews were because of the bundled software, rather than the record player itself. I previously owned a small Ion USB turntable and the sound quality of this one is far superior. It works with both 33s and 45s, has an automatic tone arm, and can connect to both a computer or a speaker system. I have a great set of speakers with a subwoofer that has a small headphone jack plug, I simply plug this into my macbook, and connect the turntable via the USB cable and receive excellent sound. One thing I will mention, is that I use the program Audacity (it's free) to play the records rather than the bundled software. You just need to remember to change the settings in preferences to allow hardware and software playthrough, and change the input to the USB turntable.

Arrived broken

The turntable arrived looking like it was in good condition. We set it up and it did not work. It was completely dead - no power to the system. Took it back to the store and exchanged it for another one that worked great.

Worth it...

Bought today and after finally getting the sound through the computer speakers...hint: follow directions and though its not mentioned anywhere click the "monitor recording" box in the software. Its in the supplied software. Once loaded click the tools tab...then record vinyl and voila there is the box to click. The sound was great once I set the input volume ( the "2" setting they recomend I found too low. I used a "5". Its a little labor intensive as you can only record in real time...but excellent results.

OK turntable, buggy software

Turntable works ok via RCA jacks and almost OK via USB port. Meaning that the Turntable USB signal is processed by my Windows XP computer (all microsoft updates installed) for recording however despite following every instruction step in the Sony manual will not play the monitor signal through the speakers so I can listen to what is being recorded. I was ready to discount that and say so what... so I plugged in the Sony Audio Forge LE app disk that came with the turntable, popped an LP on the table and let it rip for 20 minutes using the VINYL recording and restoration preset in the Sony Software. Everything went smoothly.. even burned an Audio CD and then settled into my easy chair to listen through my sound system. Much to my surprise the Sony Audio Forge Vinyl recording and restoration Track Splitter had made a dogs breakfast of the LP. It was not even close to splitting correctly... a random number generator/splitter would have done a better job. Tracks split in the middle of loud passages, 8 seconds of dead silence between tracks completely ignored by the track splitter software. Beginning and end of songs chopped off. I then thought I could split it manually as suggested in the instructions and after carefully moving the index tabs around tryed to find the command to export multiple files... oops no such command... another sony hiccup. After wasting an hour and a half I gave up. These sort of issues aside the sound from the turntable is OK. I expected bug free s/w from sony.... my mistake... perhaps I should have taken my cue from the PLAYSTATION network fiasco a few months ago. Not sure I am going to keep this product more than a few days though. I dont like the thought of having to shell out another wad of dough to buy analog recording software when I expected it to come with the turntable and actually work.

Good sound but Sony quality?

In the past year I've struggled through with a hand-me-down JVC deck from the late 80's as I've tried to refresh my vinyl collection. It was fine back in the day but was really worn out and made a lot of noise when in operation so I've been looking for an economical but good turntable for a while. In unboxing the turntable I was astonished at how much cheap looking plastic was used in the making of this thing. It seriously looks like a toy. I almost packed it back up at seeing this. But I plugged it in and, alas, it sounds great! Nice and clean through my NAD Amp and B&W speakers.

Does The Job Well

Purchased this product a couple of weeks ago with the intent of recording over two hundred LPs from the '60s and '70s. I've been hauling these things around for the last thirty years because most of them are no longer available in any format and many of the original artists have either retired permanently or have passed on. To date I've recorded over twenty LPs using the USB connection without any problems from the turntable. It works as advertised and provides good sound quality. Read the manual, follow the instruction and you won't have any problems. My only Con is the provided Sony software which, in my opinion, leaves much to be desired for my purpose. It is an overly-complex program that purports to do everything, including video, resulting in a program that makes straightforward LP recording a pain in the butt After trying a number of other software programs, many of them free, I found that a program named "Spin It Again" does everything I need with no confusion or fuss. This software, combined with this turntable, does exactly want I want and does it well.

Welcome Back To Vinyl

Years after throwing away all my old vinyl, I really started to long for warmer sound of an analogue record. Purchased this unit at Christmas time, I am very impressed with it's functionality and sound. Software is included to record onto your pc, allowing you to add effects, like reverb, echo, or as simple as adding more bass or treble. Perfect unit if you are new to vinyl, or rediscovering it again. Dislikes - After this unit gets you into the grove again, you will search and discover that spending $500 - $1000 or more will get you something that may never allow you to even listen to digital music again.

Great product

I am not tech. savvy yet managed to get this to work as expected including listening to the track through my computer speakers while its recording. Not sure why others could not do this. Sony has supplied some additional information sheets in addition to the manual which also helps and perhaps addresses the isues other users have described. You can copy individual tracks or the whole side of an album. If you do the latter the software allows you to then break up the file.

also doesn't work

I purchased this turntable for my husband, to convert vinyl to the computer, but so far it sounds really bad. I am thinking I also need a pre-amp, but when I returned to ask at the store they claimed to never hear of any problems. When I suggested they read the reviews they just ignored my suggestion.

Sony PS-LX300

I received this turntable on Christmas and i instantly fell in love with it. It has a usb cable that you plug straight into you computer(don't listen to listen to the review "be prepared") It has short rca cables though but just move your amp over and plug it in or connect your amp to your computer and use it as your computer speakers (you can listen to it through the computers sound card). This is my first turn table and i would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality turntable at a reasonable price. Hope this was helpful.

Great turntable

This is a great turntable for the price. I have it plugged into my amp through the RCA cables and the sound quality is awesome. The dust cover is also really nice tough, since some turntables at the price range don't have them. Like Joe said, it's pretty easy to record audio, just plug it in to your computer via USB and record with Audacity.

Has its days

I got this turntable for Christmas 2009 and I have already sent it away for warranty repairs. It treated me good for about 8 months. It wasn't a major problem but I don't think there should be any problems 8 months down the road. The issue I had rooted from start button. It is used to automatically move the arm to set the needle down on the record. It stopped working so I had to manually set the needle on the record. Other than that, everything worked smoothly.

Great turntable

I don't understand why "be prepared" is having issues. I installed Audacity on my Linux machine, plugged in the USB cable, and quickly figured out how to record tracks. No RCA cables were required. This is a great turntable. Very happy that I bought it!

be prepared

I purchased this turntable after the sales associate told me I could simply hook the USB cable into my PC and download my records into my computer to then burn them onto CD. This will not work unless your computer has RCA jacks that run directly into your sound card or you can run it through a pre-amp first. Also, the RCA wires are approximately 2 feet long. I was not able to use it so I am not able to give it a proper rating.

Caveat Mac owners

The description says includes all necessary software to optimize the sound and convert to MP3 format, but this is not true for Mac owners -- the software is Sony's Sound Forge, which does not run on a Mac unless it's a Pentium running Parallels. Also, the RCA cables are built in and really short, so be prepared to buy extensions unless you want to set it up right on top of the amp.
