Does the job

I really just got this as a temporary record player but i am actually surprised how good it is for the price and the build. excellent for a beginners turntable or just a casual listen. NOT a DJ turntable.

Excellent sound

I am very happy with this USB turntable, and noticed that the majority of negative reviews were because of the bundled software, rather than the record player itself. I previously owned a small Ion USB turntable and the sound quality of this one is far superior. It works with both 33s and 45s, has an automatic tone arm, and can connect to both a computer or a speaker system. I have a great set of speakers with a subwoofer that has a small headphone jack plug, I simply plug this into my macbook, and connect the turntable via the USB cable and receive excellent sound. One thing I will mention, is that I use the program Audacity (it's free) to play the records rather than the bundled software. You just need to remember to change the settings in preferences to allow hardware and software playthrough, and change the input to the USB turntable.

Arrived broken

The turntable arrived looking like it was in good condition. We set it up and it did not work. It was completely dead - no power to the system. Took it back to the store and exchanged it for another one that worked great.

Worth it...

Bought today and after finally getting the sound through the computer speakers...hint: follow directions and though its not mentioned anywhere click the "monitor recording" box in the software. Its in the supplied software. Once loaded click the tools tab...then record vinyl and voila there is the box to click. The sound was great once I set the input volume ( the "2" setting they recomend I found too low. I used a "5". Its a little labor intensive as you can only record in real time...but excellent results.

OK turntable, buggy software

Turntable works ok via RCA jacks and almost OK via USB port. Meaning that the Turntable USB signal is processed by my Windows XP computer (all microsoft updates installed) for recording however despite following every instruction step in the Sony manual will not play the monitor signal through the speakers so I can listen to what is being recorded. I was ready to discount that and say so what... so I plugged in the Sony Audio Forge LE app disk that came with the turntable, popped an LP on the table and let it rip for 20 minutes using the VINYL recording and restoration preset in the Sony Software. Everything went smoothly.. even burned an Audio CD and then settled into my easy chair to listen through my sound system. Much to my surprise the Sony Audio Forge Vinyl recording and restoration Track Splitter had made a dogs breakfast of the LP. It was not even close to splitting correctly... a random number generator/splitter would have done a better job. Tracks split in the middle of loud passages, 8 seconds of dead silence between tracks completely ignored by the track splitter software. Beginning and end of songs chopped off. I then thought I could split it manually as suggested in the instructions and after carefully moving the index tabs around tryed to find the command to export multiple files... oops no such command... another sony hiccup. After wasting an hour and a half I gave up. These sort of issues aside the sound from the turntable is OK. I expected bug free s/w from sony.... my mistake... perhaps I should have taken my cue from the PLAYSTATION network fiasco a few months ago. Not sure I am going to keep this product more than a few days though. I dont like the thought of having to shell out another wad of dough to buy analog recording software when I expected it to come with the turntable and actually work.
