Telus Optik HD Box (CIS330)

Bought two for home use to connect other TVs I have. So far I am entirely satisfied with the product performance. The picture is great and recording and playing the recorded programs is very simple.

Love Optik TV

I have been an Optik subscriber for 2 years now. Love the picture and sound quality. I would recommend Optik to anyone. We have four boxes in our house. I just wish you could watch and/or record more than 3 HD programs at the same time.

It does surround sound

Just wanted to point out to Mike and for any others who may be swayed by his review that box (all of them) can do 5.1 surround. There is a setting in the menu under audio that needs to be changed from stereo.

Have used the TELUS Optik TV for more than 6 months now and it works very well. The picture quality is excellent and, depending on your location, you may be able to record/watch 3 HD feeds at once. You can download an iPhone/iPad app (or use the web interface) to set up your recording preferences, which sure beats trying to do that with a remote. Having the ability to share one PVR is really a great feature! There are few downsides. Sometimes the STB (set top box) loses its connection to the PVR briefly and you can get get kicked out of your recorded show. After a few minutes, you can try it again and you will continue where you left off, so this is more of an annoyance than anything. (It was much worse 6 months before, so they really have done some good work fixing this issue). Secondly, be warned that this STB uses unusual remote control codes, which means your universal remote might not work, or might not work as well as the bundled remote. (I have a Logitech Harmony remote, and have gotten it configured to work almost as well as the remote that comes with the STB, but it took some tinkering.) As well, if you plan on "hiding" your STB and controlling it with an IR repeater, you should do your research because not all IR repeaters work with this STB. You will need to do your research and buy a more expensive IR repeater that is compatible. Lastly, I had a heck of time getting the STB to work with new Samsung plasma screen over HDMI. The solution seems to be throw in a HDMI switcher in between the STB and the TV which stabilizes the signal or something. All in all, a very good product with a few glitches that probably won't affect you.

Nothing more then 2.0 sound.

The Optik HD PVR does not want to do anything more then 2 channel audio. Selecting surround sound only makes all the audio really quiet. Miss Shaw. Dont mind Telus overall though. But they dont have a clue as to why I only get 2 channel audio no matter if I'm using HDMI to my reciever or Optical or Coaxal. Piece of junk.
