Would not recommend

I have 3 other kinds of Tom Tom units and have always been quite happy with them. I bought the 2535 TM when it was on sale and it had the lifetime maps for US/Canada and Europe. The first 2535 lasted about 10 days before it would not power on. I returned for another unit and this one lasted about a week. It powers on but the touch screen does not function. returned for a refund as these units seem to be have a problem. Possibly a bad batch, but it has made me think about getting a Garmin unit next. The unit seemed to function okay until we tried voice commands and this seems to lock the unit. If you get one maybe don't try the voice commands.

Poor battery life

I owed a previous GPS from TomTom before which was the GO 920. Great GPS with good battery life but had to purchase those expensive map updates yearly. When I heard that TomTom had now a GPS with free lifetime map updates I was pleased and decided to purchase the GO 2535 WTE. I've had it for about four months now and have noticed between uses which was every 3-4 weeks the battery would significantly decrease. At times I would have to charge my GPS the night before using it. Finally I called TomTom customer service. The first agent told me to keep a log on how much the battery would decrease every week for one month and if it continued there would be no issues in having it exchanged as I have one year warranty. Today I called TomTom back having sent them an e-mail with my battery percentages every week and now I am told by another CS agent that they weren't going to exchange it for me and that's how it is and the previous agent was incorrect. Of course I am not pleased having two agents giving me completely different information so I asked to speak to the supervisor. Supervisor was useless also and is not going to exchange it for me and states thats how this GPS is and cannot answer my question as to why my previous GPS had good battery life and this one sucks. I basically told him TomTom is going downhill and they are not as reliable as previous. I think their current GPS's are poor quality than the ones previously manufactured and that is why I am having a battery issue. I am seriously considering another GPS device but not a TomTom due to the experience I have incurred with this one.

It's not perfect but...

Have read tons of reviews before choosing TomTom over Garmin. General collective impressions are that Garmin has better UI's but TomTom has better features. I prefer features. Moreover, Garmin comes with on-screen advertizement. That's a show stopper for me. There are some to get used to. First, the touch screen. It's slow responding. But after you accepted the fact that it is not a tablet nor a smart phone, and just take it one step at a time it would work as it is designed. Second, its language. It says "keep left" all the time while on the highway and it just means don't go off the exit coming up on the right, etc. I never like voice controls on any devices because they are mostly annoying and so I disabled it. The biggest drawback I have so far is that you cannot plan a coming trip and save it for the next day. The planned route will disappear after it is shut down. I practiced using the TomTom for a few day test drive within the GTA to know what it's good and what it's not. I found that it is basically following the shortest route principle and avoid non-main roads and busy roads. For sure it won't know the best route I drive every day to work because I know where the traffice jams and bottlenecks are every morning, but on the whole it is good enough. Especially for a new city I haven't been before, I have enough confident to trust TomTom to lead the way now. Even the route may not be optimal as a local driver can do, it can surely get you there. So I planned my trip to New York City. I compared the route of TomTom to that of Google map and Bing map. They are essentially the same on all major roads, except a few local roads near the destination. One strange thing is that TomTom has a small section of peculiar route right before the final destination. Both Google and Bing lead me straight forward via main roads until as close as to the final destination, but TomTom lead me a long way around a big section and then via a long zigzag road to my destination. Only when I zoom right in on Google map to see the zigzag road I find out this is a road runs along a park and has no traffic lights at all. TomTom map does know something more than others. I followed that route to New York city right to the end and did find that section was a good road to drive. The only complaint about that route was that there were toll charges at three places. So the following week when I needed to go to New York city again, I tried to change the route a bit to minimize the toll charges, or so I thought. It's not easy to change a route on GPS devices. They don't have click and drag features like on Google map or Bing map. It's a hard working job that you have to map it on Internet maps first, learn the name of the section of the road, and use either the "Avoid part of the route" or "Via certain roads" function to locate that section, and wait for TomTom to re-calculate the whole route again. The "Avoid part of the route" function is less useful because you have no control over the alternative route at all. You have to do this right before your trip because the changed route cannot be saved. This is very annoying because you usually don't have that kind of time to sit down before a long trip. TomTom should make this trip planning function available on its site to make it easier and let us download the route to our device. This is very useful for repeating trips. Turned out the toll charges of my alternative route were doubled. There are many bridges and roads toll charges that you won't see on a map. Then I discovered TomTom's route is actually optimize to minimize toll charges as well. So in my return trip I followed it's original suggested route and was happy.

Works Great

I just bought one of these GPS as it was on sale and a really good deal in my opinion. This is my first TomTom GPS and I did not have any of the issues some of the other people had with regards to updating the mapes and OS. I setup the MyTomTom application, plugged it in and downloaded the updates for the map and firmware. The unit first DOWNLOADS the updates and then appears to hang. Simply power down the unit, plug it back into your computer and it should the start the INSTALL. Took more than 6hrs but all maps downloaded (NA and Europe) with no problems. Have used it in the GTA without issues.

not bad, mostly when got at the right price...

Bought it 1 month ago on boxing day because of the price and it had nice features, like Bluetooth, better mounting system, and lots of maps... so far so good, it's a good GPS, it didn't get me lost yet. Shows more clearly what lane to keep or not, and shows me when i'm over the speed limit But Bluetooth wise, it can't perfectly replace holding your cellphone, people had problems hearing me, downer :(... If needed, you can add personal points of interest and/or correct stuff of the map, like turn restrictions, speed limit, etc.
