awesome device

It's only a little cheaper than an Apple TV but it's a lot more powerful and flexible right out of the box. And you don't have to jailbreak it. You can connect to Windows shared drives, USB drives and even connect it to old TV's via composite cables right out of the box and download a remote for android or iPhones. It's function over form. The exact opposite of the Apple TV.

everything works well - except MLB app

I bought this device primarily for the MLB (Major League Baseball) app. I have been very disappointed with using the device for watching MLB games as it is frequently freezes and needs to be reset. Both the WD help line and the MLB help line want to blame the poor functioning on my Internet service. Nice try - I have the fastest FibreOp offered - which has way more speed than the MLB requires. After reading online of many others with the same problem, I realize that the general consensus is that the MLB.app is the problem because Apple TV and Boxee owners are having the same MLB problems. Just wanted others to know this before purchasing

Great!!

Have owned this for over a year now with no issues. I'm connecting via wireless. I did have some problems with avi files last year, but a firmware update was sent to the box and fixed everything. 1080p (10+GB) will playback with no issues. Have not ran into any formats which were not compatible at this time.

Like it

I got this with a WD 2TB MyBook Live NAS drive. Loaded some movies and music on the NAS drive and the WD TV Live player connected right away. Movie files have to be named right for the online database to lookup and get all the information, pictures, movie box cover ect... I took a whole day trying everything this was capable of. I ended up going to the WD forums alot but most of my questions alread had been answered. So far if play's all the file formats I'm trying. I have the unit hardwired to my network and have not had any problems. The I phone App works great - you can find and choose the content you want faster. The Menus are good once you get use to them and where everything is. Some online services don't work in Canada that would be my only complaint

Sporadic Video Lock-up Common

I have had my WD TV Live for over a month. I was impressed with the unit until I noticed sporadic lock-up during video play-back. I checked the WD support forum and found out that the lock-up issue has been happening all over the world for over a year! The unit sometimes has problems playing back 720p and 1080p movies. You need to disconnect and reconnect the USB drive to watch the rest of the movie after a lock-up. The unit will play one movie without problems and then the next movie will lock-up one or more times. WD support did not mention the problem when I contacted them about it. I had to find the information myself on the support forum. I do not recommend purchasing this unit.
