Not very good

This is entry level of the series. While it does dound better than most monster surround sound receivers (which pretty much sound terrible with music) its realistic to drop the tuner and upgrade the AS500 if you are after good sound. I tried a ton of amps and the AS500 is bare minimum to replace an old good 2 channel amp for music. None of the surround sound beasts sound good. They are all very dark. That's because they are deigned to have all the gadgets and make a "boom" sound with action movies. This has nothing to do with good audio.

Modern tech with retro looks

I purchased an RS300 about 6 months ago. It’s a great sounding amplifier and I find the finish and retro styling to be attractive. Ideally, I would have liked 100 watts per channel, but the RS300 fit my budget well and does a great job with my Polk R50s and Cerwin Vega CMX5s (I am also using a powered sub). The RS300 is a 2 channel amplifier but can switch between two pairs of speakers or play four speakers at the same time, giving the flexibility to play music in two rooms or provide the depth that a four speaker set up in one room can offer. I recently started using the variable loudness control and find it to be a nice tool for tweaking. The remote could have been laid out better and the ability to control the subwoofer volume using the remote would have been great. The iPod dock (sold separately) works well.

needs bass

my brother bought one and it doesn't boom like my hk. it's not bad and has tons of features but the power and bass on the same polks don't come close to my Harman Kardon stereo but if fesatures are more important than sound then its okay.
