"Greatness awaits" was an understatement

I've had my PS4 for about 2 months now, and have had a PS3 since 2010 and I must say, this is the best gaming experience I've ever had. Everything about the system is so smooth, fast, responsive and looks great. From the first day I had my PS4, I had a dozen games (without purchasing them) because I had already purchased (or obtained free via PS+) lots of PS3 games that are "Cross-Purchase". The PS3 lasted around 8 years, we're just at the tip of the iceberg of this generation, and the Playstation 4 will hold up to the end!

I must say the PS4 is exactly what I had expected. I bought the console opening day so I was prepared for the lack of games for the console "WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENS ON EVERY NEW CONSOLE LAUNCH" (look up every console launch to see how many games were available on launch date, its about the same with every console). I also own the Xbox One and the WII U, out of all three consoles the PS4 I use most then a close second would be my WII U mainly because of Mario Kart 8. Don't let the fans decide your decision to purchase the console as its definitely worth it. But every person there own opinion but just saying as there are lots of people looks for things to complain about stuff. The games that are out are good but if your the type of person that is worried about what games are out then you may wanna wait for the library gets bigger for the console as the same with Xbox One since they were both released in the same month. If your like me and need (er I mean want :P) to have new electronics as they are released then I can tell you its not a waste of money IMHO.

Horrible WiFi

My room is on the second floor while my router is in the basement. I have a good router with good signal strength and good speeds. My PC and my XBOX 360 are also in the same room and get perfectly fine connection with 25 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Sony however decided to cheap out on the WiFi on the PS4. It takes me 5 minutes just to load up the pictures of the Play Store and when I wanted to download Destiny Beta, a 13 GB game, the speed is slow slow that the estimated remaining time said 99+ hours. I exchanged it hoping it was just an issue with my unit but the new unit still has the same problem. If you have a bit of distance from your router do not get this console. Wait until they release a new version of the PS4 with a proper WiFi card.

It's ok

I have both consoles and they are both fine. I prefer the xbox one overall, but use both plenty. Ps4 has an internal power supply, so I find when you have a disk in the drive, the console is louder than the xbox one. Both consoles install games and both come with a 500 gig drive, which doesn't take all that long to fill. You can change the internal hard drive on the ps4 to another if you follow directions you can find on the internet. Xbox one, you cannot change drive but you can add up to 2 external drives. If you look through many of the mid to low star reviews, you will notice there is a bit of a problem with the ps4 controllers not holding up well. You can extend this search onto the internet in general for more info, but the bottom line is expect issues. I like the speaker and touch pad on the controller, but I find the xbox one controller feels a lot better and seems to be more precise(and more durable). If you are into shooters or sports games, the xbox would probably be better choice for the controller, xbox is generally a little better game wise there as well. If you are into slower games like RPGs, ps4 controller should be good. I have kinect 2 as well as ps camera. Kinect 2 is really cool in terms of being a universal remote and doing stuff like streaming and saving replays. There is a couple kinect games so far with a few coming soon. Playstation camera functions like kinect 1 so but because there just isn't a lot to do with, you might want to wait on the camera as streaming is the main function ATM. The only game I am aware of is playroom ATM, so hopefully some more games come soon. Unless you have an 80 inch tv, the graphics between the xb1 and ps4 are pretty equal. If graphics being top notch are critical, you should go at gamer PCs though. Overall it does the trick, probably be better to wait til 2015 when there will be more titles worth getting excited about.

PS4 Console

Love the new Console but I think Sony dropped the ball on the controller. What is up with the rubber coating on the 2 thumb buttons as they are deteriorating after 6 months of little use. Now the L2 button is sticking making the controller not useable. Sony could have done a little testing prior to release to the general public.

Great console but

ok so, the ps4 is an excellent console, and has a wide range of games to play depending on your tastes, with a hella lot more on the way...The only issue right now, which they 'should' be implementing later, is DLNA....ONCE DLNA has been added the external hard drive/usb support will be implemented as well...I dont get what DLNA isn't there for the ps4 since Sony is a founding member of DLNA lol but thats what it is for now. You can import music through sharefactory if you wanna add it to a gameplay video you're making but that's it for now. Hopefully in the future they'll release DLNA support, it took them a while to release flash support for the ps3, so just give it time, if they don''s not the end of the world.

PS3 Is Better Right Now

Take my word on this console: it is simply not worth buying. Currently, there are no good games to play on it except perhaps Watch Dogs, which isn't even that great. You can't watch videos saved on the hard drive like the PS3 could do AT LAUNCH. You can't listen to music, or even view photos. WHY would they release a console that is supposedly "next gen" and make it have less features than the last gen? Save your money and buy A PS3 or even better an X360.

Really a great console. Lives up to the hype, especially when watch_dogs is running!

Powerful Console

This console is perfect. It's powerful, you can change the hard drive, play 1080p, get lots of free stuff with the PlayStation plus service, and the controller is a huge improvement. This is truly a console made for gaming. The console it self is very sleek and beautiful to look at. Realistically if you can't decide between the PS4 or Xbox One it all comes down to what your friends have and what exclusives you like better. But otherwise great console.

does not allow to play different formats of dvds and u can't change the ps4 background like with ps3 will allow you change it and the ps4 doesn't have the ability to connect to external hard drives and device wish they allow different formats to dvds and allow external devices

Awesome but limited for now

No real games worthy of playing. Most of the games are basically follow the prompts, hit the buttons they tell you to hit and then watch the pre-recorded animations. Hopefully they'll make it better with future games like GTA 6 or whatever

Love my PS4

I had bought an Xbox One at first since the PS4 wasn't available at that time. After purchase, however, there were too many things that needed proprietary connectors and were Xbox only that by the time the PS4 came in, I still hadn't even cracked the box on the new X1 I was so disgusted with it! So I returned it for a PS4 and haven't looked back since and have no regrets. The graphics in comparison with the other nextgen systems seems to be the best when I went on various sites comparing them, and I liked the PS4 only titles way better that what was coming out only for the X1 (Halo is the exception, but I wasn't keeping the X1 only for Halo 5). I love the USB compatibility and as always the Bluetooth connection means I don't have to shell out massive money for a good headset or other peripherals, and the blue-ray drive is convenient when I want to catch a quick movie upstairs. I highly recommend this system for people looking for their nextgen console!

Boring System

Had a PS4 for about a week before returning it for a Xbox One. I felt the PS4 seemed like a small update over the PS3, and the exclusive games released thus far haven't impressed me. Also after a week of playing the controller joystick started to peel, and didn't convince me it would last a long time. Overall other than the graphics and good controller, aside from the peeling was good, I wasn't impressed with the console.

Pretty cool machine.

Easy to set up. Short, brief instructions. Only works with newer HDTV, as you MUST have HDMI abilities. Controller is alot lighter, and MUST be fully charged before you start to play anything.

I managed to get my hands on the PS4 on release day, and it was fun for a while, Killzone has pretty awesome graphics, I bought that and Battlefield 4 and COD ghosts. As far as graphics go the PS4 is better than the PS3 however it really wasn't as dramatic as I had hoped or expected out of a next gen console. We waited over 7 years for this console and still it has poor anti-aliasing when playing games like battlefield. Again, 7 years we waited for this console and the launch selection of games is brutal. Factor in a controller with terrible battery life (albeit better design and ergonomics), and the absurd loss of DLNA and streaming, and the ps4 really misses the mark for me. Save your money for now and wait until there is at least a better selection of games and hopefully companies can better utilize the graphics capabilities in the future.

this console is amazing! Its so powerful and i enjoy it very much, but 2 things bug me. How the system is loud upon starting a game, but after the noise does end stopping and how the controller battery isn't that great! over all the system is so good and im impressed.

Wow. Playing "Assassins' Creed 4: Black Flag" on the PS4 (connected to a 60 inch Samsung LED TV) is the most realistic thing I have ever seen on an RPG with Tomb Raider coming in a close second. I can hardly wait for Sony to add 3d support for games and movies. (BTW, 3d support has been built into the PS3 for a long while now; you should see Killzone3, TRON, and "Batman Arkham City" on my PS3/Samsung setup).

Only Good, But Promising

Got mine on release date. A lot of updates thus far and they've all been good. I got it for Call of Duty, which is too bad because the game is not only horrible, but poorly written and as such choppy on the PS4. The console itself is quiet, sleek, and doesn't get too hot. Some features aren't working well yet; the instant sharing doesn't seem to record everything -- it dropped the 3 rounds I wanted to share, while capturing my horrible first 2. Future updates can resolve that. Controller feels significantly nicer than the DS3. While I prefer the feel of the new joysticks, it feels like they made them shorter. I threw on a KontrolFreek and a silicone cap to add some length. The L2/R2 triggers feel great, but the L1/R1 triggers start to stick if you use them often, as I use them for ADS and Trigger in FPS games; I've been forced to switch to L2/R2 which is a bit slower but actually more comfortable after getting used to it. Overall, it's good at the state its in, but won't be 4/5 stars until some better games come out and the OS features they touted are added or improved.

  • from Edmonton, AB
  • Apr 07, 2014

Overall this System has been great. The resolution for this games is amazing so are the graphics. The controller has great grip and the thumb-sticks have improved so that you have better accuracy when you play First-Person shooter based games such as Call of duty:Ghosts or Fallout In the end though what matters is the price you are ranging from and what games you are deciding/wanting to play. One negative thing I would have to say about this console is that the camera is not that good unlike the xbox one's. Overall this system has been very fun and is enjoyable for the family.

Greatness does Await !!!

ok i did own the xbox one and you can view my review under xbox one, The PS4 is soooo much better then the xbox one !!! I am so happy i got rid of my xbox one reasons of getting a PS4 1: graphics are smooth 1080P 60 FPS i bought Killzone, Knack and Infamous along with a few DL games i bought Resogun, Flower, and Thrine 2 and got Dead Nation for free from PS PLUS along with you don't need plus for Warframe,Blacklight Retribution, and DC Universe,All i Have to say is Awesome !!! Now graphics are beautiful and smooth (Talk about Eye Candy ), frame rates run at 60 FPS, now i only regret not buying a PS4 right away is because i missed out on the PS PLUS i would've gotten a bunch more free games at launch, 2: PS PLUS, Now what's Awesome about PS PLUS is that you get free games every month, If you own a PS 3 and a Vita you get free games for each System, That's right Every month you get FREE GAMES FOR EACH SYSTEM !!! 3: You can upgrade the Hard Drive and its easy to do !!! 4 : You don't need PS PLUS for the use of netflix, twitch and the other apps 5: the Operating System is Sooooo Fast !!! Talk about switching from one thing to another in a second, so i'm playing my game, hit the PS button and poof i'm on the dash, press whatever i want and again in a second it just loads up in an instant !!! it's like a super computer !!! 6: Games only take from 30-45 seconds to DL from disc AMAZING !!! 7: At the price it's still a bargain and again get PS PLUS YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT !!! Again as my xbox one review, these are my thoughts about each system, and in all honesty i wish i bought the PS4 at launch i missed out on Awesome Free Games and the best Graphics and Games on a console !!! I Am Definitely Recommending to All my Friends a PS4 !!!
