L'Assemblée is a progressive hip hop group that features two of Quebec's foremost hip hop stars, Ironik and Narkoi. The group's latest release, "Les gars du peuple", is a hip hop album with elements of dub and rock, which is sure to become a classic.
Following in the footsteps of Canadian hip hop successes Swollen Members, Kardinal Offishall and k-os, L'Assemblée is poised to become Canada's next big musical export. Together since 1998, the duo has always been determined to create music with a conscience, using their art to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse and the consequences of violence.
The group's authentic style sets them apart from more traditional hip hop musicians, with sounds that radiate reggae and rock influences. Case in point, their distinctive hit single, "Turn your head around" (featuring Dupuis) has already received a phenomenal amount of airplay across the country because of its unique style. When you hear a track from L'Assemblée it sticks in your head.
The album boasts a number of tracks with well-known names in hip hop and the French-Canadian music scene. Highlights include "The winners lose", featuring Dessy Di Lauro; "Money", featuring DTM and DJ Eklips; and the CD's title track, "Les gars du peuple", featuring DJ Eklips and BoomerBlues.
With 18 tracks in total, this album is bound to please any fan of progressive hip hop, and one thing is certain - we haven't heard the last from L'Assemblée.
